Every week, the trucker sends a letter or postcard to the children with a description of the places, people and things that he meets and sees along the way. The children in turn send him a monthly letter. This correspondence lasts for one school year.

Today, there are more than 150 Wal-Mart truckers who participate in the Trucker Buddy Program. They are part of the international group of more than 4,000 truckers who maintain a correspondence with children in their respected areas.
