Over the road truck driving jobs requires one to be away from their home for an extended period of time. Usually a person will be at the minimum away for seven days to sometimes twenty one days at a time or even more depending on the person and comapany.
This extended period of time away from home will of course be reflected in your check that you receive as long as the miles driven are much greater than any time you may have had in downtime, " breakdowns, slow loading from the shippers,delays,traffic,etc.", all of which can contribute to your decrease in income. - If you are not driving - you are not paid
There are some companies that will pay for what they call "detention", detention pay caused by a shipper that is slow in getting your trailer loaded, or unloaded for that matter, some don't, that it is why it is important to know what you get paid for and don't get paid for, " remember if you are setting, you are not getting paid in most cases.
