Expedited Truck Driving Jobs
Expedited truck driving jobs involve hauling freight that is very time sensitive, usually high dollar freight and moved directly from the shipper to the receiver eliminating delays that can occur when the freight is being split out with another truck along a route.
There are multiple choices as to truck choices as semi trucks are not the only vehicles used for expediting freight, small cargo vans are used, as well as what is called straight trucks," basically a semi truck tractor with a smaller attached box trailer 26 - 28 feet in length. The straight trucks are equipped with a sleeper so these trucks can also be utilized as a team truck, allowing it to run virtually all day depending on the hours of service available to the drivers.
Most of the expediting companies that offer employment opportunites do so through owner operator leasing making you a contractor for the company. You have a choice of leasing or purchasing your vehicle, in which most of the companies have available options for your financing or leasing.
There are also opportunities to work for a fleet owner who has contracted with the company and owns a "fleet" of trucks, in this way you work for the contractor and do not have the expense of purchasing a vehicle.
Income potential recently viewed from one of the leading expediting companies advertisements shows owner operators of cargo vans average
4000.00 - 6000.00 dollars monthly, straight truck solo drivers average 8000.00 - 10,000.00 monthy, straight truck teams can average 11,500.00 to 14,500.00 monthly , semi truck solos average is 12000.00 to 16,000.00 monthly, and finally semi truck team trucks can average 14,000.00 to 20,000.00 monthly.
Time away from home can vary as few as 7 - 10 days to as long as 2 to 3 weeks, all depending on your tolerance for the road.
